Meet the maker
Francesco Piasentini works and lives in Ponte San Nicolò: a small town close to the center of Padova, in the north-east of Italy.
He mostly build violins and violas, taking care of each step in their creation. From the design of moulds to varnish cooking, wood treatments, purfling staining.. to the 360 pictures of the finished instruments. He is an active member of a community of makers that explore new and ancient ways of making better instruments.
Pioneer in the use of X-ray Industrial CT for diagnostic and reverse engineering of musical instruments, he has been scanning masterpieces by the most important makers: Antonio Stradivari, the Amati and Guarneri families, G.B. Guadagnini, D. Montagnana, M. Goffriller and many more.
